Different poetry

I personally believe that every poet should have the option of writing a poem however he or she wants to write a poem. The good thing about poetry is that each poet has his own unique style of writing a poem. Even if a group of poets were given the same topic of a poem to write about the would each come up with a different poem, unlike if they were given a specific topic for a story there might be similarities. A poem is in most cases based on personally experience or a close friends personal experience and however the poet wants to get that point across is the way the reader will interpret it.
I think the definition of poetry is however the person writing the poem determines to describe the story they are telling. As a reader, and a person on the outside looking in we cannot tell a person which style to write their story so we have to respect the way they write it and go with their flow. If a person only feels comfortable writing in experimental form, as we readers we should not take them out of their comfort zone. It is difficult coming out of our comfort zone regardless of the circumstances.
In conclusion, I really do not think there is a "lesser" form to writing poetry. There might be a poet who uses elementary language when writing a poem but if that language is what works for that poem than so be it. Sometimes it might be necessary to use words appropriate for young children in regards to our poetry instead of words for a person with a Master's degree. I do sometimes believe that a poet might want to speak in a more mature way for older audiences, but I cannot argue with the way a person choices to write his poems and the diction or ideas he decides to use in them.

I first have to open up with I loved how you expressed, "Even if a group of poets were given the same topic of a poem to write about the would each come up with a different poem, unlike if they were given a specific topic for a story there might be similarities." That is very true and a good way to look at how different and unique writing or readying a poem truly can be. I haven't really thought about how poems are all about the individual and that everything can be different. I agree with you when you wrote "A poem is in most cases based on personally experience or a close friends personal experience and however the poet wants to get that point across is the way the reader will interpret it." But after talking in class, I think we were taught that we cant assume that the poet has some emotional tie or connection, it may just be what the poet wanted to write. I like how you touched on audience because I think in any form of writing the author needs to take inconsideration of the reader and who their targeted audience is.
